Not every hide earns a gold thread. We work exclusively with Icelandic sheepskins — a deliberate choice, not a coincidence.
The Icelandic sheep has lived in near isolation in a rugged climate for more than a thousand years. The result is a fleece that develops nowhere else in the world: a dense, insulating underwool covered by long, silky guard hairs. That double structure gives our rugs their signature depth, warmth and resilience.
Every hide that enters our atelier in Brecht passes a strict selection. Only skins that meet our standards are — ecologically tanned — turned into a Monroe.
Natural warmth
The dense underwool insulates naturally. An Icelandic fleece feels warm in winter and pleasantly cool in summer.
Made to last
Exceptionally hard-wearing. With normal use, a rug lasts for years — often decades — without losing its beauty.
A natural palette
From pure white to deep black, with every grey and brown in between. No two hides are identical — and so no two Monroes.
Pure origin
Iceland maintains strict standards for animal welfare and the environment. Our hides are ecologically tanned and fully biodegradable.
