Sheepskins have long been used in care, and part of that is scientifically supported: according to a Cochrane review, medical sheepskins halve the risk of pressure ulcers, wool improves sleep through temperature regulation and superfine wool reduces eczema symptoms. You clean a sheepskin by beating and brushing it regularly, dabbing stains immediately with a mild wool detergent and only hand-washing it in cold water as a last resort. Let the skin dry flat and in the air, away from sun and heating, and comb it up when it is almost dry.

The Icelandic sheep is an old, isolated breed with a double fleece that protects it from snow and wind. As a result an Icelandic sheepskin is thicker, warmer and longer than ordinary skins and comes in a wide palette of natural colours. This article explains what that means for your rug.

Every Monroe rug goes through five steps in our workshop: selection of ecologically tanned Icelandic skins, colour composition, hand stitching with gold thread, plastic-free finishing and a final check. Within 2 to 4 weeks the rug is delivered free of charge in Belgium.
